Woodridge ends Tallmadge baseball's playoff run

Tallmadge baseball came into the Division II district final hoping for a bit of underdog magic.

Sometimes, though, the favorite wins.

Woodridge handed Tallmadge an 11-5 loss May 21 in the district final at Canal Park at Akron.

Tallmadge dropped to 8-14 with the loss.

Tallmadge opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, getting an RBI double from John Rensel and an RBI single from Matt Noel make to it 2-0.

However, Woodridge scored one run in the bottom of the first and then erupted with four runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth to take a commanding 8-2 lead.

Tallmadge pulled one run back in the top of the sixth, as Ian McVey singled, Rensel reached on an error and Noel hit an RBI single to make it 8-3.

Woodridge answered with three more in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-3.

Tallmadge tried to rally in the seventh inning, as it got an RBI single from Will Woods and an RBI groundout from McVey to cut it 11-5.

Rensel then walked to load the bases, but Noel hit into a fielder's choice to end the game.

Jason Beaumont (3-4) took the loss for Tallmadge. He went 3.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits with three walks and one strikeout.

Tallmadge will close out the season at Cloverleaf May 23 at 4:30 p.m.
