Tallmadge softball team reaches regional play

The Tallmadge softball team advanced to Division II regional play.

The top-seeded Lady Blue Devils (22-3) earned a 6-0 victory over Cleveland Heights Beaumont May 24 at the Barberton Sports Complex.

Kirsten Lightel (20-2) pitched a complete-game three-hitter to get the win in the circle. Tallmadge scored six unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Lady Blue Devils finished with four hits and one error. The Lady Blue Streaks had one error.

Joanna Catalano drove in the first run with a fielder's choice and Tori Young and Mackenzie Gershom were hit by pitches with the bases loaded.

Nicolette Williams added a sacrifice fly to right-center field and Brandy Wakefield drove in the last two runs with a two-run single to right-center field.

The Lady Blue Devils are scheduled to play Poland Seminary in a Division II regional semifinal game May 28 at Firestone Stadium in Akron. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
