The doubles team of Tallmadge residents Tim Springirth and April Springirth captured the mixed doubles championship during the 2014 Portage Open Tennis Tournament July 21 at Kent Roosevelt High School.
The team began playing tennis in high school.
Both April and Tim Springirth began playing tennis in high school. Although they were making their second tournament appearance as a doubles team, this year was the team’s first attempt at the Portage Open Tennis Tournament.
“The atmosphere, the people and the fact that they opened it up to people outside of Portage County brought us here,” Tim Springirth said. “We had a good experience. We’re planning to come back next year.”
Tim also was expected to compete in the men’s singles competition later this week. Results were not available at press time.
