Tallmadge worth noting

Little League teams fare well

The Tallmadge age 10-and-younger baseball All Star team recently was the runner-up in the state tournament.

Earlier in the season, Tallmadge earned a 16-8 victory over Elyria.

Trailing 7-5 with two outs in the sixth inning, Tallmadge scored 10 runs.

Mason Dexter played every inning despite stomach pain.

After the game, Mason was taken to the emergency room and was diagnosed with appendicitis. Mason had surgery the following morning and returned home later that evening.

The Tallmadge 11-and-younger baseball All Star team saw its season end in the state quarterfinals.

Crush seeks players

The Ohio Crush Baseball Society is scheduled to host open tryouts for the 2015 season.

Tryouts are set to take place at Silver Lake baseball field, located behind Village Hall, Aug. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Players are asked to arrive 45 minutes early to sign in and warm up.

Camp offered

The Ultimate Sports Camp, sponsored by Bethel Church of Tallmadge, is scheduled to take place Aug. 9 at Lion's Park in Tallmadge.

Registration is scheduled to take place from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and the camp is set to take place from 9-11:30 a.m.

Baseball, basketball, cheerleading, golf, soccer and tennis will be offered.

Each child will get to choose two sports. There is no cost.

Trio runs in Akron

Three Tallmadge residents participated in the 2014 Derby Downs 5K Run July 20 in Akron.

Matt Cochran, 37, won the male 35-to-39 age group with a time of 19 minutes, 53.7 seconds.

Emily Baumgartner placed first in the female 20-24 age group (30:55.9) and Julie Bozic finished fourth in the female 30-34 age group (31:46.8).

Trio runs in race

Three Tallmadge residents ran in the Wigs For Kids Zoo Walk and 5K Run July 26 at the Cleveland Zoo.

Female (age 25 to 29): Laura McElrath, 28, second, 55th overall, 23 minutes, 4.6 seconds

Female (30-34): Jennifer Murphy, 33, 33rd, 337th, 36:03.7

Female (60-64): Linda McElrath, 61, second, 233rd, 30:53.4

Resident wins

Tallmadge resident Darin Hudak won the boys 11-and-12 age group with an 87 during a Northern Ohio PGA Junior Golf qualifier July 7 at Silver Lake Country Club.

Hudak defeated four other golfers.
