Duo earns trip to Florida for baseball

Tallmadge freshman baseball players Andrew Ayres and Luke Thomas recently were selected to play for the age 14-and-younger Premier Travel United States Specialty Sports Association team for the Great Lakes Region.

Ayres led the Diamond Boys with a .448 batting average and Thomas led the team in runs, hits and runs batted in.

The All-American Games were scheduled to take place Aug. 7 through 13 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Fla.

Results were not available at press time.

Resident fares well at golf tournaments

Tallmadge resident Darin Hudak finished in a four-way tie for 10th with a 9-over-par 81 in the boys 13-to-15 age group at a Northern Ohio PGA Junior Series event July 15 at Fox Den Golf Course in Stow.

A total of 36 golfers participated.

He also placed fifth with a 7-over 79 in the boys 13-15 age group at a Northern Ohio PGA Junior Series event July 11 at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley.

A total of 40 golfers participated.
