Staff report

The host Tallmadge boys golf team lost to Wadsworth 4-2 in a Suburban League crossover match play event Aug. 22 at Maplecrest Golf Course in Kent.

Jake Palotta earned a 5-and-4 win over his opponent and Noah Bowser defeated his opponent 3 and 1.

"The guys had fun, playing and learning a different type of golf," Blue Devils head coach Jon Shomo said. "The matches were competitive against a pretty good Grizzly team.

"The Pallotta match was halved on the course, but it was discovered that the Wadsworth golfer had 15 clubs in his bag. The penalty for that in match play is loss of each hole the 15 clubs were in the bag.

"Jake played a very strong match, starting with a birdie four on the first hole. Noah overcame a shaky start to post a nice win."

Tallmadge (1-1) was scheduled to host Western Reserve Academy Aug. 25 at Maplecrest. Results were not available at press time.

The Blue Devils are set to visit Suburban League American Conference rival Kent Roosevelt Aug. 29 at Oak Knolls Golf Club before returning to Maplecrest to play American Conference foe Copley Sept. 1. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
