The Tallmadge girls bowling team qualified for the Division I district competition.
The Lady Blue Devils finished second out of 15 teems with a score of 3,152 pins at a sectional tournament Feb. 19 at Stonehedge Entertainment in Akron.
Akron Archbishop Hoban won the title with a score of 3,194 and Akron Springfield (3,146) and Copley (3,122) also qualified for the district competition, which is scheduled to take place Feb. 26 at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes in Canton. Bowling is set to begin at noon.
Junior Emily Kiss won the overall girls' competition with a three-game series of 583. She rolled games of 225, 160 and 198, respectively.
Senior Tawney Beans was next with a fifth-place score of 537 (164, 201 and 172).
Also competing for Tallmadge were freshman Kirsten Moore (143, 130 and 169) and juniors Kristina Beckwith (129, 127 and 132) and Hallie Turney (125).
The boys team fell one place short of advancing. Tallmadge finished with a fifth-place score of 3,403.
Wadsworth won the 14-team competition with a score of 3,715 and Springfield (3,625), Cuyahoga Falls (3,578) and Brunswick (3,553) also qualified for district play.
Freshman Parker Braccio advanced after finishing fourth overall with a 577 series. He rolled games of 184, 236 and 157.
Senior Austin Moore missed qualifying by 21 pins. He rolled a 538 series (174, 193 and 171).
Also bowling for the Blue Devils were freshman Robbie Wilson (201, 161 and 137), seniors David Kisha (168) and Justin Kennell (163) and junior Nick Drayer (148).
The Division I state girls tournament is set to take place March 10. The Division I state boys competition is scheduled to take place March 11.
Both events are set to take place at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl.
