Softball wins first two conference games

The Tallmadge softball team improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Suburban League American Conference after posting an 8-1 victory over Barberton April 5 on the road.

Left-hander Hallie Mullett got the win in the pitcher's circle. She allowed four hits and one run in 4-2/3 innings of work.

Mullett struck out seven batters and walked two.

The Lady Blue Devils scored two runs in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead and put the contest out of reach with five runs in the seventh.

Tallmadge had 14 hits and zero errors. The Lady Magics, who scored their lone run in the first, had 10 hits and two errors.

Madison Rearick led Tallmadge with three hits and a run scored.

Jordyn Severns had two hits, two runs scored and a run batted in and Olivia Carey had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and a run scored for the Lady Blue Devils.

Delanie Dadich added two hits and two RBIs and Olivia Ayres had a single, a walk and two runs scored for Tallmadge.

Lady Blue Devils' right-hander Emily Pratt relieved Mullett in the fifth and finished the game.

Host Tallmadge made a stellar 2017 Suburban League American Conference with a 4-2 victory over Copley April 3. The Blue Devils scored three runs in the bottom of the first and one run in the fifth.

Tallmadge had a 4-0 lead before the Lady Indians scored two runs in the sixth. The Lady Blue Devils had four hits and one error. Copley had seven hits and one error.

Pratt (1-2) struck out nine batters in four innings to get the win. She issued zero walks.

Mullett pitched the last three innings for Tallmadge.

Severns had a double, two runs scored and a run batted in and Gia Spitali had a single and two RBIs for the Lady Blue Devils.

Tallmadge concluded its trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., with a 5-1 loss to Immaculate Conception Catholic Prep (Ill.) March 31 at the Ripken Experience.

Autumn Malicoat had two hits, including a home run, and Rearick, Carey and Bri West each had two singles for the Lady Blue Devils.

Tallmadge settled for a split during the Ripken Experience March 30.

The Lady Blue Devils suffered a 7-6 defeat to Columbus Bishop Watterson in their first game and then posted a 5-4 victory over Worthington Christian in the second game.

Severns had two hits, including a triple, and two runs batted in for Tallmadge.

Malicoat also had two hits and an RBI and Pratt and Carey each had a single and an RBI.

Against Worthington Christian, Dadich was a triple away from hitting for the cycle. She had a single, a double and a home run to go with three RBIs.

Malicoat had two singles and drove in the game-winning run. Carey added a home run.

Also contributing for the Lady Blue Devils was Spitali, who finished with two singles.

Tallmadge was scheduled to host Woodridge and Stow-Munroe Falls April 8. Results of those games were not available at press time.

The Lady Blue Devils are set to entertain American Conference rival Revere April 10 before heading to Aurora April 12. Tallmadge is scheduled to visit Green April 14. All three games are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Blue Devils are scheduled to visit Field April 14 at 6:30 p.m. Tallmadge is set to visit Madison April 15 at 6 p.m.
