She will go down as one of the greatest jumpers in Tallmadge High School history.
And she had the jump of her life on the big stage.
Tallmadge senior Vanessa Lane concluded a stellar career with a fourth-place leap of 5 feet, 7 inches at the Division I state track and field meet June 3 at The Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
Lane was just an inch away from the state title. Strongsville's Emilia Lesniak defeated Lancaster's Hope Purcell and Cincinnati Withrow's J'Alyiea Smith on misses. All three athletes jumped 5-8.
The top eight athletes in each event earned All-Ohio honors.
Junior Sara Johnson finished 11th with a leap of 17-1.25 in the long jump. It was Johnson's first trip to the state meet.
